Pluto goes retrograde as of tomorrow, April 24th until October 3rd. It is currently sitting at 23 degrees in Capricorn. A need to grip onto power, destruction and rebirth will be themes for this event. Pluto seems to have so much hidden mystery and an odd “out of the ordinary” concept. From the moment it was discovered, it has had this element. Like a full moon, Pluto builds up to something with strong force and it climaxes at the very end.
If I were to explain in one sentence what Pluto in retrograde is like, I’d say: things are not always what they seem. The surface, or what seems like an obvious external influence of a situation, is simply just the tip of the surface. Things tend to have a deeper meaning than what they look like. Its retrograde also tends to destroy and eliminate things, in order to create space for something new; in order to be reborn . This includes psychological patterns (karmic behaviour), being swiped clean to stop the cycle and create a fresh one. Because of this shift in behaviour, you may feel an increase in self consciousness. If you have been showing an increased interest in spirituality or anything that may be seen as taboo, this new interest will only increase and maximize during Pluto retrograde. Taboo interests can include your religious views, sexual pleasures, family dynamic and traditions or a little bit of everything. Neptune in Pisces also supports this shift of a need to understand what is usually hidden to us.
As you know healing and the journey is not linear. As you go through this journey of new discoveries you may have an internal war. Holding in how you really feel about things or your thoughts on subjects will feel like punishment. As you discover what may be told/taught to you as taboo subjects, you’re going to attempt to hold in your excitement and interest. You will keep yourself on the same old pattern, therefore highlighting the karmic influence of Pluto. To be quite honest, no matter what the interest is or how taboo it may seem, let it out! Capitalize on the energy Pluto brings of rebirth. Allow yourself to be seen in this new light.
Pluto is connected to the 8th house and water sign Scorpio. It is an extreme form of great concentrated power. This house is associated with our finances, our relationships with people and how they affect our finances, destroying our ego’s boundaries, death in a physical and spiritual way and the astral plane. This house is also associated with connecting with our shadow side, pushing our limits and even the ending of long term relationships. Because Pluto is connected to the 8th house, look to see what falls here on your own chart to see what can be activated now. Although Pluto is not in this house, these themes can still become activated in our lives. Do the same activity, but for the third house as these aspects can also be activated now as this is currently where Pluto sits.
Pluto in the third house gives us the influence of mental clarity. We are seeking clarity in what people say and can also repeat what we say to people, because we want to make sure we were heard and understood. The third house is deeply connected to our early years of life, especially the years of elementary-early high school. What mystery of your inner child is hidden? What would your inner child like to say to you? Any outstanding truths you seek from your childhood, may be drawn back to your attention at this time. With Mars in Gemini currently in the 8th house, I expect this need for truth and clarity to be a strong theme for all of us in this retrograde. Ensure that when this energy influences you, you are not getting irritated! We may find ourselves feeling irritated with others as they may not do what we want. For those of us who work closely with others, we may find ourselves going deep into conversations, with a need to peel back more and more layers. Keep this in mind when you’re interacting with others to ensure you are not manipulating them into doing what you want!
An important thing I want to also highlight is that Pluto is in conjunction to Saturn and is square to Uranus in Taurus. Although Saturn and Pluto are not fully conjunct until January 2020, the movement has already begun. From this I expect to see lots of top down energy spaces, like the institutions, to lash out more with agendas filled with propaganda, major power plays, big news in regards to modified food and climate change. By institutions, I mean the government, the church, the bank and even the academic system. Uranus in Taurus as we already know brings the extreme rise in temperature and likes to speed things up. I believe and see in my meditations that the masses will be resistant and skeptic on these changes and we can expect to see protests rise as these new changes are being forced on us.
The energy that this cosmic shift brings is very intense. The best thing you can do for yourself is build a relationship with a practice that can help keep you anchored. Use this shift to discover new things and find your own spiritual anchor. It will help you get through this retrograde and the one to come after (Saturn). Heal your inner child through journaling, lots of self care and self expression.
