Birth is a sacred ceremony, one that has been celebrated through ancient rituals, left by the ancestors. Reconnecting with our roots in birth, can empower and elevate the experience even more. It takes a village to raise a baby they say, but it also takes a village to support a mother, a couple, through birthing that baby. Having a doula can aid in that support.

What is a doula?

A labour doula is a trained professional, who supports another individual through childbirth. Doulas support mothers and couples during this time with emotional and physical support, by drawing on knowledge and their professional training, in order to provide the best experience. A doulas role as additional support can begin before, during and after childbirth. Your doula is there to provide knowledge and information, to ensure informed decisions are made that could arise during childbirth. The wealth of knowledge your doula shares can also include techniques for relaxation, massages and suggestions for progress in labour. A doula does not have medical training, like an OB/GYN or midwife, however they can act as an advocate and mediator with hospital personnel, and explain medical terms and procedures.

As your doula, I am here to work for you, and support you during labour. Ensuring your voice, desires and needs are heard and supported during your birth.
